CANS FOR HUMANITY 2026

Be the Change

Build Hope. Feed Children. Fight Hunger.

Cans for Humanity is Be Heartfelt’s annual community-wide campaign bringing businesses, schools, nonprofits, government agencies, organizations, families, and individuals together for one purpose: helping end childhood hunger in our island community.

Throughout September — Hunger Action Month — we invite Guam to collect canned food, host canned food drives, form teams, volunteer, and help us fill the shelves of Be Heartfelt’s food pantries.

The campaign culminates in our annual Cans for Humanity build at Micronesia Mall, where teams use the canned food they have collected to create unique structures made entirely from cans.

It is fun. It is creative. But most importantly, every can represents food for a child who needs it.

HOW CANS FOR HUMANITY WORKS

1. Form Your Team

Bring together coworkers, classmates, church members, friends, family members, or your organization.

2. Collect Canned Food

Host a canned food drive throughout September and encourage your community to donate.

3. Get Creative

Plan a structure that your team can build using the cans you collect.

Your structure can represent your organization, tell a story, celebrate Guam, raise awareness about hunger, or simply show your creativity.

4. Bring Your Cans to Micronesia Mall

Teams will bring their collected canned food to the mall on Friday, October 9.

5. Build for a Purpose

On October 10–11, teams will transform thousands of cans into incredible displays while helping raise awareness about childhood hunger.

6. Feed Children

When the event is over, the canned food does not go to waste.

It goes back into our community to help stock Be Heartfelt food pantries and provide food to children and families who need it.

WHAT CANNED FOOD SHOULD WE COLLECT?

Because the food we provide goes directly to children, we especially appreciate easy-to-open, child-friendly canned foods.

Helpful donations include:

  • Canned meats

  • Vienna sausage

  • Tuna

  • Canned chicken

  • Canned pasta

  • Ravioli

  • Canned chili

  • Canned soup

  • Canned fruit

  • Other shelf-stable canned foods that are easy for families to use

Whenever possible, pull-tab or easy-open cans are especially helpful.

Please make sure all donated canned food is unopened, in good condition, and not expired.

DON’T HAVE A TEAM? YOU CAN STILL HELP.

You do not have to build a structure to be part of Cans for Humanity.

You can:

  • Donate canned food

  • Host a canned food drive at your workplace, church, school, or organization

  • Encourage your business to participate

  • Volunteer with Be Heartfelt

  • Share Cans for Humanity with your friends and community

  • Make a financial donation to help us purchase canned food most needed by our pantries

Every can matters.

WHY CANS FOR HUMANITY?

For a child experiencing food insecurity, hunger affects far more than an empty stomach.

It can affect concentration, learning, energy, emotional well-being, health, and a child’s ability to simply focus on being a child.

Be Heartfelt works throughout the year to help make sure children have food during weekends, holidays, school breaks, and other times when food at home may be limited.

Cans for Humanity gives our entire community an opportunity to be part of that mission.

One can may seem small.

But one can becomes part of a meal.

Hundreds of people giving together become thousands of meals.

That is what Cans for Humanity is about.

SEPTEMBER IS HUNGER ACTION MONTH

Cans for Humanity is part of Be Heartfelt’s annual observance of Hunger Action Month throughout September.

During the month, we are asking our island community to take action:

Give. Volunteer. Collect. Build. Share.

Whether you donate one can, organize an entire canned food drive, volunteer in one of our pantries, or build alongside us at Micronesia Mall, you are helping make sure children in our community know they have not been forgotten.

OUR GOAL IS BIGGER THAN FOOD

At Be Heartfelt, our mission is for every child we serve to know that they are:

Seen.
Loved.
Valuable.
Created with a purpose.

Food is one of the tangible ways we show them.

When our community comes together through Cans for Humanity, we are not simply filling pantry shelves.

We are telling a child: We see you. We care about you. You matter.
